GOVERNMENT COLLEGE OF ART AND CRAFT
Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta is one of the oldest and premier institutes of art education in India. Boasting of a 157-year legacy, the college has always been a seat of academic excellence. GCAC is a co-educational seat of learning and affiliated to the University of Calcutta. It offers four years semester-based undergraduate (B.F.A.) programs in Painting, Indian Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Ceramic Art and Pottery, and Design: Wood and Leather. Currently, the institution follows the Choice Based Credit System (C.B.C.S.) for its undergraduate programs.
It also offers two-year semester-based intensive masters (M.F.A.) programs in Painting, Indian Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Textile Design, Ceramic Art and Pottery, and Design: Wood and Leather. From 2005 the institution has also commenced the doctoral degree program (Ph.D.) in Fine Arts. It is the only fine arts institution in the country to offer a specialized course in Indian painting. The institution has received an ‘A’ from the NAAC accreditation committee in 2007.
