Subhash Babhulkar

1 Review

Subhash Babhulkars painted world is dense with activity. It deals with the lives of men and women in diverse situations of happiness and distress, elation, and anxiety. Subhash brings forth a range of emotions through the expressive use of color applied with unbridled passion and vigor. Bright reds and emerald greens, electric blues, and flesh pinks, the color palette invites the viewer for a closer look. Eschewing linearity, heavy impasto and profuse textures are employed as formal elements by the artist to build up the characters and their surroundings, which vary from lotus filled ponds to cubical dwellings. The female is accorded a privileged status, appearing as a goddess on some occasions and as a companion in most. At times, human beings share their emotional secrets and physical space with birds and beasts. The paintings though seemingly simple, open out the artist's complex inner world which the viewer is invited to glimpse
