Kavitha Balakrishnan
Kavitha Balakrishnan who draws under the same nom-de-plume was born on 1st June 1976, at Irinjalakkuda . She is married to Rajesh Aravindakshan. They have a son, Adithyan.
Kavitha who has an MA and PhD in art history from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda teaches Art History and Aesthetics at the Govt. College of Fine Arts in Thrissur. Her major creative output spans have been in painting and poetry.
Her notable works are "Adhunika Keralathile Chitrakala" (art history), “Angavaalulla Pakshy” and “Njan Haajaruntu” (poems).
The notable awards received include the Soviet Land Nehru Award for Painting in 1989 and the Kerala Lalit Kala Academi award in 2007. Her book keralathile chitrakalayude varthamanam won the state award [2] for the best book on art in Malayalam in 2007 from Lalitha kala academy. She has also been awarded the SBT Sahitya Puraskaram in 2005 and an Ayyappan Puraskaram for poetry in 2007.
